Our scheme involved sending in our receipt with our Australian address and hoping the person sending the poster out didn't notice 🤫😉

That sunset (?) is so beautifully blinding. Ordered and can't wait to read. The words 'giant goat' are already funny.

Mac, I love your Picture Book Manifesto. You mentioned in your newsletter wishing you could have celebrated its 10 year anniversary but you could always invite others (or, even better, everyone willing) to pledge/sign, as a way to renew and broaden its impact. Just a thought. I've done so on my own.

Mac,

Two questions and a comment (in reverse order)

Thank you for the joy you bring to our family through your creative endeavors. It is no exaggeration when I say we all quote your books daily. And anyone caught humble-bragging is said to be very Icelandic.

Question 1 - If my kids wanted to write you an old fashioned letter, how best could they do that? (That is, if you do not have a (very legitimate) rule about providing some sort of fan mail address). We tried once and sent one to your publisher but not sure that gets passed along. Kids have a few burning questions from repeated readings. I could have them type it here or write it out and paste it here but didn’t know if that was a proper use of the comments section. :)

Question 2 - do you sell any merch or do you take a Watterson-esq philosophy

Thanks for everything and looking forward to the new books!

-Woodie

Aw, thanks so much. Becoming part of a family's set of references is truly one of the highest honors a kids' book writer can get—at least that's what I think.

A1: You can send mail to PO Box 5401, Berkeley, CA 94705. I will write back! But not always promptly.

A2: Yeah, we do sell some merch! Although Bill Watterson has influenced my philosophy deeply—in ways I'm probably not even fully conscious of—I think it's cool giving kids an outlet to express their love of books. Everything we make is up here https://www.thefirstcatinspace.com/gear. Right now almost all of it is from The First Cat in Space, but there's a hat up there that grew out of a series of online readings I used to do daily (and still do occasionally). At the moment only kids' sizes of that hat are in stock, but some adult hats in a new colorway are coming soon.

This is my first goat related newsletter and I enjoyed ALL of it. Thank you for pointing out the small goats as I did not notice them initially and that really aided in large goat scaling. Favorite bit: “Jon and I believe this book contains the biggest goat in the history of children’s literature.” 17 books with Jonny!!! Holy goat!

Ahhh! That makes more sense. I was thinking you must have a lot in the tank yet to release. I bet you will make it to seventeen!
